How will a Copywriter learn about my Product/Service?

All good copywriters get very involved with their client’s product. They are eager to absorb as much information about the product as they can so they can write with authority. To do this, they do some or all of the following:

  • Use the product/service
  • Visit the factory where it’s made
  • Talk to customers about their experiences with the product
  • Watch videos/DVDs and read vast amounts of research material to educatethemselves about the product
  • Go on the road with the sales rep to see how the product is sold tocustomers
  • Wander the aisles of supermarkets to witness how people choose a product…and more.If some of those personal visits are not possible or appropriate, a comprehensive telephone briefing will take place.

What if I just want you to write some blogs?

That’s totally fine too! Not everyone that comes to me wants to push a product or service (copywriting). Sometimes they just need to fill the empty pages of their ‘blog’ or write something thats just entertaining and engaging for their readers! You’ll find plenty examples of my published articles under my ‘portfolio’

Hmmm, this creative brief sounds like a high school test. What is it?

Don’t fret, the creative brief is designed to complete together and I’ve done quite a few of them now, so I’m here to offer suggestions and guide you through it.

Ultimately, its a document packed with juicy info about your project and business that I can later refer to when I’m working on your project. It ensures I stay on track and have all the information that I need so that I dont need to keep coming back to you with questions and clarifications.

The kinds of questions it asks are; name me a few of your competitors in the industry (I want to know this so I can research what they’re doing – that you’re not and to work out what your point of difference is compared to them). I’ll also ask you things like: who is your target market, ie, who are we writing to and do we want to attract? As well as the features and benefits of your product or service (we can nut these out together).
